As different individuals we all have our preferences when it comes to spending our leisure time. Some follow active pursuits while others favour hobbies that require quiet concentration; some like to go out and party while others enjoy giving time to themselves or to their families at home. But, who doesn’t like to sit down in a comfortable seat in front of a big screen showing an interesting, moving, funny or suspenseful film?
Here, at Bee My Guest, we think that very few people would say they don’t. That’s why every Friday we play a movie in English, with English subtitles, on our special big screen and then comment on the plot, the actors and other aspects of the movie. We think it’s a great way to practise English and at the same time develop friendships with people who share the same language learning objectives.
Well, tomorrow’s Friday and once again we’ll gather at around 6 o’clock for our weekly screening. This time we’ll see a lonely Matt Damon stranded on Mars in the film The Martian, one of Ridley Scott’s most recent and challenging works. Check out the trailer above. (Or don’t if you don’t like spoilers!)
Anyway, if you’d like to join us, drop me a line at bmg@beemyguest.org or visit us from 5.30 onwards and I’ll be more than happy to welcome you, show you around and introduce you to the other attendees.
And while we’re on the subject of cinema, you’re all probably aware by now that our city’s Film Festival starts tomorrow, with lots of venues, journalists, film makers and stars involved. The professionals dealing with the enormous array of activities taking place are all ready to do their best to try and make the Zinemaldia a success, and yours truly is one of them; so Bee My Guest will be closed all next week – that is from 19 to 23 September.
You see, every year for the past 27 I’ve been honoured to participate in some of the many translation and interpreting jobs required for smooth communication at every level, and, as you can imagine, it is with great anticipation and excitement that I face each annual edition; so I’m sure you’ll understand when I state that I wouldn’t miss it for the world!
Having said that, I’d like to invite you to come round to our lounge once this big event is over and before the end of the month, that is the week from Sept 26 to 30, to try out our system and, if you like it, to register with us for the new school year starting Oct 3. You can find us at 18 Escolta Real, next to Jakintza ikastola, and we’re open from 11 am to 8 pm from Monday to Thursday.
So whether you’d like to join our cinema club or do any other activity in our lounge, go ahead and Bee My Guest. It’s the best thing you can do for your English.
